Permission is one of those strange things that we seek when beginning something new or dipping our toe into the unknown. Long before I found the courage to start my business I went in search of other women who had done the same in order to ‘seek’ permission to build the dream that had been on my dream for years.
After a year and a half of trying to run my business through a pandemic and many ups but mostly downs I went in search of other women who had closed businesses in an attempt to validate and gain ‘permission’ to do the same.
I have come to realize that the best decisions come from within and require nobody’s permission but our own, but learning to listen to ourselves and finding the strength to boldly decide for ourselves doesn’t always come easily or naturally, especially for women who have been trained to seek approval and validation for most of their lives.
Once I began identifying as a writer and gave myself permission to show up in this way, and the words arrived. I have been quietly working to build my confidence as a writer, putting words onto the page without seeking or needing the permission or validation of anyone but myself. Was it easy, heck no. Was it worth it, absolutely.
Consider this your permission slip to start over and/or begin again. To choose yourself and prioritize your own wants and needs. To quit your job, to pursue your passions, to start that business or creative side hustle. To do whatever it is that you know you need to do to get one step closer to YOU.
