Have you ever noticed a thought or idea appear from out of nowhere? Perhaps a fully formed vision started begging for your attention? Or a random word or image kept trying to nudge you in the right direction?
Some ideas arrive to inspire us into action while others serve as a form of distraction. Some ideas hit us over the head and refuse to quit while others disappear before they ever become clear. Some ideas stick with us for years while others are specifically designed to push against our fears.
Knowing which ideas to pursue and deciphering what steps we should actually be taking often leads us toward indecision. We receive the nudge, but quickly convince ourselves our idea was meant for someone else or we hold a vision but refuse to take action. We talk ourselves out of instead of into our own ideas and the bigger the idea, the more we resist it. The bigger the leap outside your comfort zone; the less likely it is that we will actually take it.
I am someone who has always been and hopes to always be full of ideas. But that does not mean that all ideas are created equal or that all ideas will find their way out of us and out into the world. I spent the vast majority of my life avoiding my ideas, convinced that they were leading me astray. I was conditioned to view success as linear and veering off course felt like the exact opposite of what I had been taught. I thought I was supposed to pick a path and stick with it, but over time the path I was on no longer felt like mine and the harder I fought against it, the worse things got.
I used to think that my plethora of ideas were distracting me, but now I can see that my ideas were trying to lead me back to me. I have spent the past 5 years tackling my own ideas while simultaneously cheerleading the ideas of others. Truth be told, most days I am simultaneously holding multiple ideas up in the air, but knowing which ideas to pursue and at what capacity rarely comes easily and it is only through repeated action that we can actually bring our ideas to life.

I have learned that the ideas that keep resurfacing are the ones we must trust, the ideas that keep reaching out are speaking directly to us. I believe these ideas are trying to help us to see a potential path forward, providing the inspiration we need to redirect or realign our lives. Moving in the direction of our ideas helps us find the clarity we need and brings the larger path into view. Accepting our ideas as truth leads to our biggest break throughs.
What if your ideas are trying to nudge you in the right direction? What ideas have you been avoiding? What ideas are trying to get your attention? What would it take to honor this new direction?
